| Obverse description | Central field displays the crowned Dutch royal coat of arms — a quartered shield bearing a rampant lion passant guardant with sword and bundle of arrows — surmounted by an ornate royal crown. The date 19-02 flanks the shield at left and right within a fine beaded inner circle. Below the shield, the denomination 2 1/2 CENT. is inscribed along the lower arc. The circular legend NEDERLANDSCH INDIE. runs along the upper periphery between the beaded border and the rim, all rendered in a crisp, deeply struck milled style characteristic of Dutch colonial pattern coinage. |

| Reverse description | The central field carries two lines of Jawi (Arabic-script Malay) text reading 'سڤرامڤت ڤوله روڤيه' (meaning '1/40 Gulden'), enclosed within a beaded inner circle. Surrounding the inner circle, a broad outer band bears a continuous legend in Javanese Hanacaraka script: 'ꦱꦥꦫꦥꦠꦁꦥꦸꦭꦸꦃ ꦫꦸꦥꦶꦪꦃ꧈', repeating the denomination in Javanese. A small rosette ornament appears at the top of the outer legend. The design reflects the bilingual Dutch colonial practice of rendering denominations in both the Malay and Javanese scripts for indigenous readability. |
