| Obverse description | The obverse is dominated by an intaglio portrait of Clodomiro Picado Twight at right, rendered in red-brown tones against a light guilloche underprint. At upper centre, a vignette of Isla del Coco appears within a pale blue oval, with the date '30 de julio de 1997' and place of issue 'San José, Costa Rica' inscribed above. A special '50 Aniversario BCCR' commemorative overprint appears to the right of centre, alongside two signature lines labelled 'PRESIDENTE' and 'GERENTE', with the serial number printed vertically at left and horizontally at lower right. |
