Beschrijving voorzijde The left half of the note is occupied by a letterpress vignette in dark red-brown tones showing workers observing large industrial boilers or cylindrical machinery at the Leipzig Technical Fair (Technische Messe zu Leipzig), with a caption beneath. To the right, the denomination is rendered in large Gothic blackletter script — "Zwei Millionen" above a bold numeral "2,000,000 Mark" — flanked by the issuer's stylised double-M monogram as an underprint. A redemption clause in small Gothic text states payment in Reichspapiergeld within one month of recall via the issuer's trade journal, dated "Leipzig, im August 1923", with the issuer name "MESSAMT FÜR DIE MUSTERMESSEN IN LEIPZIG" and two manuscript signatures below. Denomination panels reading "2,000,000 MARK" repeat in the top and bottom borders.

Opmerkingen

The Messamt für die Mustermessen in Leipzig — the trade fair office managing the Leipzig Sample Fairs — was among the hundreds of German commercial and municipal bodies forced to issue their own emergency currency during the hyperinflation peak of 1923. The Leipzig trade fairs had operated continuously since the medieval period, and by mid-1923 the Reichsbank simply could not supply enough physical notes to keep commerce moving between fair cycles.

Adolf Forker was a Leipzig-based printer, which means this note was produced and circulated entirely within the city — no external printing house involved. At two million Mark, a denomination that would have seemed extraordinary eighteen months earlier, this was routine pocket change by August 1923.
