| Opmerkingen |
Meguin A.G. was a chemical and lubricants manufacturer based in Butzbach, Hesse, and like thousands of German firms in 1923, it issued its own emergency currency — Notgeld — to meet payroll when the Reichsbank simply could not supply enough physical banknotes to keep pace with hyperinflation. By the time denominations reached the millions of Marks, these notes had a useful lifespan measured in days before the face value became economically meaningless.
Corporate Notgeld of this period was rarely redeemed in practice — the issuing firms often collapsed or the notes were simply abandoned as currency reform overtook them. The Rentenmark stabilization in November 1923 rendered the entire class obsolete almost overnight.
