BREMEN, DEN 17. AUGUST 1923
DIE FINANZDEPUTATION:
背面描述 Printed in the same blue-green intaglio style by Carl Schünemann, the reverse is dominated by the large Gothic text 'Zwei Millionen Mark' across the centre, above which a ribbon banner reads 'Freie Hansestadt Bremen' flanking a standing civic figure. Flanking vignettes depict a tropical harbour scene with a palm tree and ocean liner to the left, and a sailing vessel to the right, evoking Bremen's maritime mercantile identity. A text panel in the lower centre states the conditions of acceptance and validity, with the printer's imprint 'KUPFERTIEFDRUCK CARL SCHÜNEMANN BREMEN' along the bottom margin.

备注

Bremen's Finanzdeputation issued this 2,000,000 Mark note during the acute phase of Weimar hyperinflation, when municipal and state authorities across Germany were printing emergency Notgeld simply to keep commerce moving — the Reichsbank could not produce denominations fast enough to match the collapsing purchasing power of the mark. By August 1923, two million marks would buy little more than a loaf of bread.

Carl Schünemann was Bremen's dominant commercial printer and handled much of the city-state's inflationary paper across multiple denominations that year. The quick turnaround between design, printing, and release meant quality control was secondary to speed.
