Bezirkssparkasse Traunstein was a district savings bank in Upper Bavaria — not a central monetary authority — yet by August 1923 Germany's hyperinflation had forced institutions at every level of the financial system to issue emergency money. This is Notgeld in its most extreme phase, when denominations that would have been unthinkable eighteen months earlier became routine. The Leopoldseder print shop was a local commercial printer, not a security press, and the constraints show.
Two million marks sounds staggering. By late 1923 it wouldn't have bought a newspaper.
