Comments

Wittenburg's 199 Pfennig denomination is a deliberate oddity — odd-value Notgeld was sometimes issued to discourage hoarding by making change calculations awkward enough that notes would cycle back through commerce rather than disappear into pockets. Whether that was the actual intent here or simply the arithmetic of a local cash shortage is unresolved, but the value itself is the note's defining characteristic.

H. Pinkepauk designed it locally, which was common for smaller Mecklenburg municipalities that lacked connections to the major Notgeld printing houses in Berlin or Leipzig.
