Lesbos in the early fifth century operated under a shared electrum coinage system among its major cities — Mytilene and Methymna most prominently — but silver fractions like this piece suggest independent municipal production running parallel to that federation. At 1/96 of a stater, this denomination served the most granular end of daily exchange, the kind of transaction that larger electrum pieces could never efficiently handle.
