Additional information

Akmoneia was a Phrygian city whose civic coinage of the late Hellenistic period is notable for the unusually prominent role of named magistrates in its issues. Theodotos, son of Hierokles, appears as the responsible authority on this bronze — a practice that allowed local elites to attach their families to public religious and monetary administration simultaneously. The name Hierokles itself suggests priestly connections, common among Akmoneian magistrate families attested across multiple issues from this city.

Weber 6970 places this piece within a well-documented but thinly spread series. SNG Copenhagen 11 remains one of the few accessible comparative specimens.
