Phokaia, the Ionian city on the Aegean coast of Asia Minor, was among the earliest Greek cities to strike coinage, with an electrum tradition reaching back to the seventh century BC. By the late third century, the city operated under Attalid pressure following Pergamon's expanding regional dominance — a political reality that shaped the output and scale of local bronze issues during exactly this window.
