Æ18 - Epikrates Hypata

The Ainianes were a tribal federation occupying the upper Spercheios valley, with Hypata as their principal city. Their autonomous bronze coinage effectively ended with the Roman defeat of Perseus of Macedon at Pydna in 168 BC, after which Rome reorganized Thessaly and the surrounding regions, dissolving the political structures that had authorized such issues. The magistrate name Epikrates appears in the Rogers corpus as a variant, suggesting minor die differences from the primary catalogued type — likely a separate obverse or reverse die pairing rather than a distinct emission.
