| Beschrijving voorzijde | Bare head of Emperor Augustus facing right, rendered in the idealized Hellenistic portrait tradition characteristic of eastern provincial civic coinage. The effigy presents carefully articulated hair swept forward over the brow in the Augustan manner. A partial Greek legend encircles the field, surviving as a row of dots and fragmentary letterforms along the upper periphery. The portrait is struck on a slightly irregular flan consistent with the hammered bronze production of the Pamphylian civic mint at Aspendus. The treatment of the likeness reflects the propagandistic imperial imagery disseminated throughout the eastern Roman provinces during the Augustan period. |
