Obverse description Bare head of Herakles facing right, clad in the Nemean lion's skin, the scalp drawn over the crown and rendered in low relief with characteristic mane locks visible above the brow. The facial features are modelled in a archaic-transitional style typical of Sicilian bronze coinage of the late fifth century BC, with a strong profile and almond-shaped eye. The flan is irregular and slightly off-centre, as is common for struck bronzes of this period.
