| Reverse description | A hippocamp depicted in right profile, its equine foreparts and neck raised with curled wing folded against the body, and the fish-tail curving prominently beneath in a tight volute. The creature is rendered in strong relief at the centre of the flan, with the field otherwise plain and unlettered. The style is consistent with Sicilian civic bronze issues of the early fourth century BC, where sea-mythological creatures served as prominent civic emblems. |

Kefra was a small mint in Sicily, almost certainly operating under Sikel rather than Greek civic authority during the late fifth and early fourth centuries BC — a period when the island's interior communities were asserting varying degrees of independence between Syracusan expansionism and Carthaginian incursion. The CNS classification places this type among the earliest bronze issues attributable to the site, and the HGC rarity rating for 1252 reflects how thinly these survive across collections.
