Obverse description The crowned Norwegian royal coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting the rampant lion passant holding an axe upon a heraldic shield, surmounted by a royal crown with orb and cross. The shield is encircled by the collar chain of the Royal Norwegian Order of St. Olav, with the order's badge — a cross pattée — suspended at the base. No peripheral legend appears on this face; the design fills the field in a bold, sculptural relief.
