Obverse description Draped bust of Empress Maria Theresia facing right, her hair elaborately coiffed with loose curls falling to the shoulder. The effigy is rendered in high relief with fine detailing on the lace and ornamental dress. A circular Latin legend surrounds the portrait within a beaded border, reading M THERESIA D G R IMP GE HU BO REG, identifying her as Empress of the Romans and Queen of Hungary and Bohemia.

Reverse description A displayed double-headed imperial eagle occupies the center of the reverse, its wings spread and bearing a composite dynastic shield on its breast with the small arms of Tyrol at the center. The value XVII is expressed in Roman numerals in the lower field beneath the eagle. The encircling Latin legend, interrupted by the date, reads ARCHID AUS DUX BURG COM TYR followed by the year and the denomination mark X XVII, all within a beaded border.
