正面描述 Laureate head of Apollo facing right, rendered in fine archaic-to-classical style with wavy locks falling behind the neck and a laurel wreath crowning the hair. The youthful, beardless facial features display smooth modelling typical of 4th-century BC Asia Minor bronze coinage. The portrait occupies the full field of the flan.

背面描述 Apollo Smintheos standing to right, depicted as a youthful nude figure holding a phiale in his extended right hand and a bow in his left. A monogram appears in the lower right field, serving as a civic or magistrate's control mark. The figure is rendered in the classical style associated with the sanctuary of Apollo Smintheus in the Troad region.

附加信息

Hamaxitos was a minor Troad settlement whose civic identity was closely tied to the cult of Apollo Smintheus — the "mouse Apollo" — a distinctly regional deity whose worship predated and likely influenced the better-known Chryse sanctuary nearby. The city's coinage output was limited, and bronzes attributable to the fourth-century civic mint survive in small numbers across major collections.

The SNG Ashmolean and Munich concordance here is useful: both specimens were likely acquired through late nineteenth-century excavation lots from the Troad, the primary source of these minor civic bronzes entering European collections.
