Obverse description Central device consisting of a heraldic or devotional motif within a beaded or linear border, struck on an irregularly shaped bronze flan typical of hammered coinage of the Marquisate of Montferrat. The design elements reflect the artisanal die-cutting style common to fifteenth-century north Italian minor bronze issues. The flan shows natural surface irregularities and patination consistent with hammer-struck provincial coinage of this period.
