Arkesine was one of three ancient cities on the island of Amorgos in the Cyclades, alongside Minoa and Aegiale. The city's bronze coinage is scarce in any form — Amorgos sat at the periphery of major Aegean trade routes, and local bronze issues rarely traveled far, which paradoxically can mean survivors show surprisingly light wear.

Weber 4617 places this piece within a well-documented private collection dispersed in the early twentieth century, providing at least a traceable provenance anchor for an otherwise poorly-documented civic issue.
