Leukas occupied an unusual geographic position — technically an island after the Corinthians cut a channel through the isthmus in the seventh century, yet culturally and politically tied to the Akarnanian mainland throughout the fourth century. This bronze was struck during a period when the city navigated shifting alliances between Macedon, Epirus, and the Akarnanians, eventually joining the Akarnanian League sometime around the close of this issue's probable production window.
