Obverse description Draped laureate bust of King João V facing right, rendered in high relief with elaborately curled long wig cascading to the shoulder in the Baroque style. The legend IOANNES. V. D. G. PORT. ET. ALG. REX. runs along the upper and right periphery in raised Latin characters. The Bahia mint mark 'B' appears below the truncation, flanked by the date 1727, both positioned in the lower field above the inner rim. The portrait displays strong definition in the facial features and drapery folds, characteristic of early 18th-century Portuguese colonial gold coinage.
