| Obverse description | Within a finely dashed border ring, the Portuguese royal arms — a crowned shield bearing the quinas and castles — is centrally placed, surmounted by the Crown Real. The denomination 160 appears in the field flanking the shield between pellets, with three vertical fleurs-de-lis (florets) between pellets to either side. The date, split across the design, appears as two two-digit groups flanking the shield. The entire composition is encircled by the Latin legend JOANNES•D•G•PORT•ET•ALG•P•REGENS•, identifying João as Prince Regent of Portugal and the Algarves by the grace of God. |

| Reverse description | Within a dashed border ring, an armillary sphere — the emblematic device of the Portuguese overseas empire — occupies the central field, bearing the mint letter B (Bahia) or R (Rio de Janeiro) below. The armillary sphere is rendered with its characteristic bands and equatorial ring. The surrounding Latin legend SUBQ. SIGN. NATA STAB., an abbreviated form of SUBQUO SIGNO NATA STABILI, proclaims that Brazil was born and shall endure under this sign, referencing the armillary sphere as the symbol of the colonial realm. |
