Obverse description Within a finely dashed border ring, the Portuguese royal arms — a crowned shield bearing the quinas and castles — is centrally placed, surmounted by the Crown Real. The denomination 160 appears in the field flanking the shield between pellets, with three vertical fleurs-de-lis (florets) between pellets to either side. The date, split across the design, appears as two two-digit groups flanking the shield. The entire composition is encircled by the Latin legend JOANNES•D•G•PORT•ET•ALG•P•REGENS•, identifying João as Prince Regent of Portugal and the Algarves by the grace of God.
