Obverse description Full-length frontal figure of St. John the Baptist, nimbed and draped, holding the Agnus Dei (Lamb of God) in his right arm; the Lübeck city arms, a quartered shield, displayed at the base of the figure within a lobed cartouche. The encircling legend reads MONETA NOVA LVBECENS with the date 1573, separated by pellets, within a beaded border. The composition is rendered in the bold, high-relief style characteristic of late sixteenth-century North German municipal coinage.
