Obverse description Full-length frontal figure of St. John the Baptist, nimbed and draped, holding the Agnus Dei (Lamb of God) in his right arm; the Lübeck city arms, a quartered shield, displayed at the base of the figure within a lobed cartouche. The encircling legend reads MONETA NOVA LVBECENS with the date 1573, separated by pellets, within a beaded border. The composition is rendered in the bold, high-relief style characteristic of late sixteenth-century North German municipal coinage.

Reverse description Crowned double-headed imperial eagle displayed, with wings spread and detailed feathering; on the breast, an orb bearing the numeral 16 denoting the coin's value in Schillings. The eagle is surmounted by an imperial crown. The surrounding legend names the Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian II: MAXIMILIAN II D G IMP SE AVGV 16, within a beaded border, in the standard format of imperial recognition coinage of the period.
