| 裏面の説明 | A cruciform monogram formed by four crowned, interlaced letter Ms arranged at the cardinal points, with a central roundel enclosing the numeral 16 denoting the denomination. Four fleur-de-lis ornaments fill the angles between the arms of the cross. The uppermost M is surmounted by a princely crown, while the lowermost bears a smaller crown below. The circular legend surrounding the design includes the issuer's name, title, date, and denomination value, separated by decorative stops. The edge of the coin shows a reeded or milled border visible in the image. |

Mary of Nemours inherited Neuchâtel in 1694 following the death of her half-brother Henri II d'Orléans-Longueville, who died without legitimate heirs. Her claim was contested, but the local Estates recognized her, and this coinage followed almost immediately — a deliberate assertion of sovereign authority over a principality whose status had been disputed for decades. She would rule until her death in 1707, after which the succession crisis led ultimately to Prussian control under Frederick I.
