Obverse description A typographically printed note executed entirely by letterpress on plain paper, with the heading REPUBLIQUE D'HAITI at the top and a central diamond-shaped frame enclosing the denomination numeral and serial number fields. The French body text states that the note circulates throughout the Republic for the value of sixteen gourdes, guaranteed by the Treasury under the law of 26 April 1827, with SEIZE GOURDES inscribed vertically along the left border and SEIZE GOURDE along the right, and a signature line for the Membre Signataire at the foot.
