Additional information

Thyrrheion was a city in Akarnania, the rugged region of northwestern Greece that spent much of the fourth and third centuries BC navigating between Macedonian pressure from the north and Aitolian expansion from the east. The Akarnanians maintained their own federal coinage, but individual cities like Thyrrheion also struck autonomous bronzes — a practice that reflects the unusual degree of civic independence the federation tolerated among its member poleis.

SNG Copenhagen 414 places this piece within a well-documented but sparsely represented series.
