Obverse description Central field features an elaborate geometric mandala-style square design with a Shaivite trident (trishula) enclosed within a circle at its centre. The four quadrants of the inner square bear the Devanagari components of the royal name and title, reading outward: श्री ५, ज्ञानेन्द्र, वीर, विक्रम, शाह, and देव. Four decorative cartouches at the cardinal points of the outer square frame display traditional royal symbols: a sun, a conch shell, a lotus flower, and a royal sceptre. The upper arc of the field carries the honorific legend श्री श्री, and the Bikram Sambat regnal year २०६० appears in the lower register. The entire composition is enclosed within a beaded outer border.

Reverse description Central field depicts a detailed portrait group of Sir Edmund Hillary standing in full mountaineering attire — including goggles, high-altitude suit, and oxygen equipment — with Tenzing Norgay seated before him, both rendered in high relief against a mirror-polished field. The legend CONQUEST OF MT. EVEREST arcs along the upper periphery within a beaded border. The name HILLARY appears to the left of the central group and TENZING to the right, with NEPAL below to the right. The purity and metal designations .9999 GOLD are inscribed to the lower left. A rectangular cartouche in the lower exergue contains the commemorative dates 1953-2003.
