| Obverse description | The Tanzanian coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting an oval shield supported by two human figures — a male warrior to the left and a female figure to the right — each resting a hand on a pair of elephant tusks. The shield is quartered and features a crossed axe and hoe, a torch of freedom, wavy lines representing the sea, and a mountain, all surmounted by a spear.
