| Additional information |
Migingo is a tiny rock island in Lake Victoria — barely 2,000 square meters — that has been the subject of a genuine territorial dispute between Kenya and Uganda for decades, with both governments at various points claiming sovereignty, stationing police, and demanding the other's citizens pay fees or relocate. Uganda's position has generally been that the island sits within its waters; Kenya's surveys say otherwise. The dispute was never formally resolved.
A commemorative issue on this subject is an unusual assertion of territorial claim by coin.
