Togo's authority to issue coins is itself a bureaucratic curiosity — the country is a member of the West African CFA franc zone, meaning the Banque Centrale des États de l'Afrique de l'Ouest controls its actual monetary policy. These small gold issues were produced under licensing arrangements common to several nominal African issuers in the 2000s, with the physical minting contracted to European facilities and the "Togolese" attribution serving primarily a collector-market function.
Nefertiti's famous bust, excavated at Amarna in 1912 by a German expedition, has spent more time at the center of repatriation disputes than on public display.
