Côte d'Ivoire has issued coins under its own name despite being a member of the West African Economic and Monetary Union, whose currency is managed by the Banque Centrale des États de l'Afrique de l'Ouest — an arrangement that technically limits individual member states from issuing independent coinage. These pieces are collector issues produced under licensing agreements, not circulating tender, and bear no relation to monetary policy in Abidjan.
