Obverse description A finely detailed proof-struck panoramic view of the Summer Palace (颐和园) in Beijing occupies the central field, depicting the marble boat, colonnaded lakeside galleries, pavilions, and the Tower of Buddhist Incense crowning Longevity Hill amid rendered foliage. The Chinese characters 颐和园 (Summer Palace) appear in the upper right field, while the characters 北京 (Beijing) are inscribed at the bottom centre, flanked by a stylised boat motif. The date 1983 is positioned to the right of the boat emblem in the lower field. The coin is bordered by a continuous reeded inner rim.
