Additional information

Issued to mark the 125th birth anniversary of Motilal Nehru, the Allahabad-based lawyer who built one of colonial India's most prominent legal careers before becoming a two-time president of the Indian National Congress. His 1928 Nehru Report — drafted in response to a British challenge to produce an agreed Indian constitutional framework — was among the first serious indigenous attempts to define dominion status and fundamental rights, predating independence by nearly two decades.

The .500 fine silver alloy was a deliberate cost-control measure that became increasingly common in RBI commemorative issues from this period.
