Issued to mark the 150th anniversary of the Arya Samaj, the reformist Hindu organization founded by Swami Dayananda Saraswati in Bombay in 1875. Dayananda rejected idol worship, caste discrimination, and child marriage at a time when such positions carried genuine social and legal risk. The Samaj's influence on the Indian independence movement was substantial — Lala Lajpat Rai, one of its most prominent members, was fatally injured by British police during a 1928 protest in Lahore.
