Obverse description The State Coat of Arms of the Soviet Union occupies the upper field, depicting a globe with hammer and sickle surmounted by a five-pointed star, flanked by wheat sheaves bound with ribbons. Below the arms, the Cyrillic legend СССР (USSR) is inscribed across the centre, separated from the lower field by a horizontal line. The denomination 150 in large numerals and РУБЛЕЙ appear prominently in the lower field, with the date 1990 at the bottom. To the lower left, the fineness and weight indicators Pt 999 and 15,55 are inscribed, while the Leningrad Mint monogram (ЛМД) appears at the lower right.

Reverse description A detailed relief depiction of the Russian exploration vessel Bot Svyatoy Gavriil (Boat St. Gabriel) under full sail occupies the central field, shown navigating open seas with waves in the exergue and a rocky coastline visible to the right, evoking the Alaskan shore. The vessel flies multiple flags and is rendered with fine rigging detail. A circular legend in Cyrillic script arcs around the upper portion of the field reading 250 ЛЕТ ОТКРЫТИЯ РУССКОЙ АМЕРИКИ (250th Anniversary of the Discovery of Russian America). Along the lower arc, the inscriptions БОТ СВ. ГАВРИИЛ and М. ГВОЗДЕВ·1732 identify the vessel and its commander, Mikhail Gvozdev, with the year of the historic voyage, a compass rose motif appearing between the two lower inscriptions.
