| Obverse description | Central field bears the Portuguese royal coat of arms, depicted on a crowned shield surmounted by a royal crown rendered in low relief. The shield is framed by an ornate mantle or decorative surround, with star-like ornaments visible in the field to either side. The design is typical of the crudely struck hammered coinage produced for Portuguese India under Queen Maria I, with irregular flan edges and flat, somewhat worn relief. |
