The Banco de Buenos Ayres was established in 1822 as the first bank in the Río de la Plata region, and its notes were printed locally rather than contracted to European firms — unusual for the period, when most Latin American issuers relied on British or French printers. This 150-peso denomination is an odd value by any standard, suggesting the bank was meeting specific commercial or payroll demands rather than following a conventional denominations ladder.

The bank collapsed in 1826 under the financial strain of the Cisplatine War and was absorbed into the state-backed Banco Nacional. Notes issued under the PS#334 series fall within the final active years before that transition, when the institution was already under severe liquidity pressure.
