| Reversbeschreibung | A highly detailed medallic composition depicts two of Rome's most iconic ancient monuments in the central field: the Colosseum rendered in perspective to the left, and a row of standing columns from the Temple of Saturn (Forum Romanum) rising prominently in the foreground to the right. The engraver's signature G.M. MONASSI is incused in small letters along the lower exergue. The circumferential legend, reading in the upper arc, commemorates the centenary of Rome as the capital of Italy, with the dates 1870 and 1970 flanking the lower field on either side. |
