This note is a buono di cassa — a cashier's voucher — issued by a regional agricultural credit bank in Brescia during the severe coin shortage that afflicted Italy through the mid-1970s. The shortage was bad enough that municipalities, banks, and even private businesses printed their own low-denomination paper substitutes, tolerated by the authorities as a practical stopgap. Tipografia Artigiana in Capriate d'Adda, a small printing house in the Bergamo province, produced this and several related issues for institutions across Lombardy.
The 150-lire denomination is the tell — it corresponds directly to the prevailing cost of a bus or tram ticket at the time, making these vouchers genuinely functional in daily exchange rather than purely notional.
