Croatian aviation traces its origins to Mihajlo Mišić, who made the country's first documented powered flight in 1910 near Zagreb — the centennial of which this coin directly commemorates. Croatia's interwar aviation history is less widely known than it deserves: the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes established one of the earlier national air forces in the region, drawing heavily on pilots who had flown for Austria-Hungary during the First World War.
KM#97 was issued in a limited proof mintage, as is standard for Croatian commemorative silver of this period.
