The $150 denomination was created specifically for this commemorative issue — not a figure that corresponds to any standard note in the bank's circulating series. HSBC was founded in Hong Kong in March 1865, making 2015 the precise 150th year, and the denomination itself functions as the anniversary marker. Commemorative Hong Kong dollars of this type are legal tender but almost never enter circulation; they move directly from bank counters into collector hands.
Stuart Gulliver signed as Group Chief Executive, Peter Wong as Deputy Chairman and Chief Executive of HSBC Asia-Pacific. Two signatures drawn from different levels of the corporate structure — an unusual pairing that reflects the note's dual identity as both a Hong Kong-issued instrument and a group-level anniversary product.
