Part of the Royal Canadian Mint's ongoing lunar series tied to the Chinese zodiac, this 2001 issue marks the Year of the Snake. The series was introduced specifically to capture collector demand within Canada's substantial Chinese-Canadian community, particularly concentrated in Vancouver and Toronto. Mintage was tightly controlled, as with all issues in the series, keeping secondary market premiums firm from the outset.
