Beschrijving voorzijde Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, depicted at the age of 77, uncrowned and unadorned with a diadem, wearing a necklace and earrings. The portrait is the fourth definitive effigy of the Queen as used on Canadian coinage, rendered in a refined and naturalistic style. The legend ELIZABETH II D·G·REGINA arcs along the upper periphery of the field.

Aanvullende informatie

Canada's lunar gold series occupies an awkward commercial niche — produced explicitly for the Asian-Canadian gift market and timed to Lunar New Year retail cycles rather than driven by any monetary or numismatic imperative. The 2016 Monkey issue is 18-karat, a deliberate choice by the RCM to hit a lower price point than their standard 99.99% fine gold collector pieces while still qualifying as a gold coin issue.

Monkeys hold the ninth position in the twelve-year Chinese zodiac cycle. The dual catalogue references suggest this design appeared across more than one RCM product configuration in the same year.
