The Saint George and the Dragon type has roots in the Benedetto Pistrucci design commissioned for the British sovereign in 1817 — a composition so enduring that Pistrucci refused to let other engravers copy it, forcing the Royal Mint to work around him for decades. This Solomon Islands issue has no connection to that lineage beyond the subject matter; like many large-format Pacific island bullion pieces, it exists because the issuing territory licenses its name to private minting operations producing collector bullion with no meaningful circulation intent.
