Obverse description Right-facing draped bust effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, as sculpted by Arnold Machin, occupies the central field. The legend COMMONWEALTH OF THE BAHAMAS arcs across the upper periphery, while INDEPENDENCE curves along the right side, both separated by a beaded inner border. Below the bust, the engraver's signature ELIZABETH II appears with the date 1973 beneath, flanked by raised dots. The portrait depicts the Queen with an elaborate coiffure and a diadem, in the classical Commonwealth style introduced in 1966.
