Central field depicts a profile view of the steamship 'Bakar', rendered in fine line engraving with masts, rigging, and smokestack clearly detailed against a mirror-like proof field. The Yugoslav state coat of arms — featuring a torch encircled by wheat sheaves and a five-pointed star — appears above the vessel at the top of the field, with the date '29.XI.1943' inscribed on the shield and the mint year '1978' alongside the mint marks 'M A' to its right. A bilingual circular legend frames the design, reading 'SFR JUGOSLAVIJA' in Latin script at the left and 'СФР ЈУГОСЛАВИЈА' in Cyrillic at the right. The denomination '150' appears prominently at the bottom center, flanked by the denomination legends 'ДИНАРА · DINARJEV' to the left and 'DINARA · ДИНАРИ' to the right. |
Yugoslavia hosted the 1979 Mediterranean Games in Split, and this issue was struck the preceding year as part of the fundraising and commemorative program surrounding the event — one of the larger international sporting gatherings the country had organized to that point. Tito's government used such occasions deliberately to project Yugoslav non-alignment and openness to both Eastern and Western audiences.
The .925 fineness is notably higher than the .750 silver used in many Yugoslav commemoratives of the same decade.
