Additional information

Issued to mark the 1977 celebration of Bhumibol Adulyadej's 50th birthday, this coin was struck while Thailand remained under the military government of Admiral Sangad Chaloryu, who had seized power in the October 1976 coup. The Royal Thai Mint produced a number of commemorative silver issues tied to royal milestones during this period, partly as a means of projecting institutional continuity through the monarchy at a moment of acute political instability.
