15 Riyals - Saqr Rome

Ras al-Khaimah's short-lived coinage program of 1969–1971 was less a monetary exercise than a calculated appeal to the international collector market, authorized under Ruler Saqr bin Mohammed Al Qasimi before the emirate joined the UAE federation in 1972. These oversized silver pieces were produced by foreign mints — this one struck in Rome by the Istituto Poligrafico dello Stato — and were never seriously intended for circulation. The series was cancelled when federation absorbed the emirate's independent issuing authority.
